❄️ Cookies for the Winter Olympics

Happy baking!

Happy Saturday, Reader!

❄️ With the Winter Olympics upon us (and snowy weather in the DC forecast), these chocolate chip cut out sugar cookies are a fitting baking project this weekend.

Earlier this month, I even got to decorate them on Virginia This Morning — live on-air! I picked this recipe because it’s simple, reliable, and forgiving, which is exactly what you want when TV cameras are watching. 😄

The snowflake design

To recreate this look, pipe buttercream in lines across the cookie to form a snowflake, then gently press the cookie into sanding/sparkling sugar, and voilà.

⬇️ And if you want to see the decorating process sped up, here’s a quick video, too:

Hope you're warm and cozy this weekend,

P.s. If you didn't catch Alysa Liu's performance for gold in women's figure skating earlier this week, you must watch it! 🥇 ⛸️

Happy Saturday, Reader. If you’re still figuring out what to bake for Easter tomorrow, I’ve got you. 💛 This past week, I made two versions of one of my all-time favorite spring desserts. First up: this old fashioned carrot cake with pineapple. It's a super soft, classic layer cake that I actually made for my dad’s birthday last weekend. It’s one of those recipes that’s been on repeat in my family for years, and for good reason. The crushed pineapple along with freshly grated carrots keep it...

Happy Thursday, Reader. For spring and Easter baking, I'm making tweaks to some of my existing recipes to dress them up for the season, and I wanted to share two types of cookies with you. 🪺 Up first are my big batch chocolate chip cookies. They're in rotation whenever I need a classic dessert for a crowd. Yielding 40 cookies, it's a good option that's quick to whip up, and any leftovers will freeze well for three months in an airtight container. To theme this recipe with Easter, I swapped in...

Happy Sunday, Reader. Spring has sprung, and with Easter just a week away, here's a fun and timely seasonal bake. Last Monday, I had a blast sharing my Easter bunny sugar cookies on Fox5 DC. These are the cookies I reach for every spring when I want something festive but not too fussy. Plus, they're perfect if you're baking with kids or short on time. Here's why they work so well: No-chill dough so you can decorate and eat these sooner rather than later Buttercream frosting instead of royal...
